Vladimirs Stolarovs of Taverners Road, Peterborough drove his friend to Grantham police station the morning after he had been drinking until 2am.

As he drove away the officer working on the reception desk at the station noticed his erratic driving and alerted colleagues who stopped the car nearby.

A blood test revealed Stolarovs, 43, was twice the legal limit with 166mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80mg.

Rory McMillan, defending said Stolarovs was very sorry and ashamed of his action.

He added: “He drove as he felt fine to drive.

“He says emphatically that he would not have driven if he had known that was not the case.”

Stolarovs was disqualified from driving for 18 months and fined £120. He must also pay costs of £85 and a £15 surcharge.
