GRANTHAM Town’s title challenge received a huge New Year boost when two goals in the final two minutes salvaged victory from near-certain defeat on Monday.
The Gingerbreads found themselves 2-1 down away to in-form Brigg Town with just minutes remaining when Battersby’s shot rebounded off the post straight to Grimes who pulled Grantham level, scoring against his former club.
Grantham managers Jimmy Albans and Wayne Hallcro would likely have been pleased to escape with a point as the game moved into stoppage time, particularly after goalkeeper Rob Murray was forced to make a one-on-one stop at the feet of Brigg attacker Paczkowski.
Three minutes into injury time Grantham claimed an unlikely three points thanks to returning Town striker Sean Cann. Battersby and Grimes were the creators before finding Cann - recently resigned after a spell at Lincoln Moorlands - to clinch all three points.
Grantham Town co-manager Jimmy Albans said: “We played for the full 95 minutes.
“People might say we didn’t deserve to win today, but we keep going to the end and that’s what gets us these results.”
